a peak into

the owen family

I was born in 1977 and grew up in Champaign, Illinois, a college town with lots of coffee shops, music and arts. I graduated from Centennial High school and attended parkland and eastern colleges. I joined the military in 1998 as military police. I met my husband Scott in the military and married in 2001. we both deployed to iraq in 2003-2004. we are both retired now from the military and spend most of our time encouraging our 16 yr old son’s talents. our son, Scotty is a musician, artist, and actor. we have a very musical family and you can find three generations of us serving on the praise and worship team at church. My mom plays the piano, my son plays the drums, and i sing. in 2023, we settled down in the lovely small city of monticello, illinois. we have enjoyed making friends here. our house is a very loud house. when you dont hear lots of laughing, you hear drumming so its a good thing we live in the country. we love animals and live with our two cats cloud, and Tommy, and our all black german shepherd Freyja. i dont think we will ever not have a pet.

i have been married to my soulmate scott owen for 23 years now. He puts up with all of my quirks, visits from the good idea fairy, and multiple started art projects that i call organized messes. he loves to cook, and is amazing at it which is a good thing because i can’t. when we are not helping out with our sons activities we try to get as much work done as we can creating in our studio. he is very supportive of my creations and works in the studio just as much as i do on these projects. he will soon have a line of jewelry available on this website.

we also love our nieces and nephews very much and have tried to spend as much time as possible with them, embarrassing them, and creating memories with hilarious games, stories, pranks, and bizarre traditions. my husband is the fun uncle and i am the crazy aunt. we have fostered a safe, loving , supportive, environment, full of laughter, randomness, and creativity in our home and wouldn’t have it any other way.

in our home, we are animal lovers. our pets are very spoiled and part of the family. you will see nose art on our car windows, our dog knows what starbucks is, and pet hair is just part of our life. we have been known to adopt strays and Tommy (orange) was a feral cat who now rules the house. our animals like to be wherever we are and involved with whatever we are doing.

scotty and I share the love of music, art, and theatre. we enjoy attending live music and theatre when we can. going to twenty one pilots concerts has been a family tradition with scotty since he was little. he is kind of an old soul and collects vinyls from every genre and era. we knew he was musically inclined at a young age. i couldn’t even go to the grocery store without scotty tapping out a beat on every available surface so eventually we got him a drum set. He could pick out songs by ear on the keyboard and he never stopped singing. His grandmother plays the piano by ear and his grandpa plays the guitar by ear. He also has a genius uncle who is a recording arts professional who shares his expertise. we also knew he had a knack for acting because he would make up characters with accents and create comedy. his first live theatre experience was attending the musical sweeney todd. scotty has been drawing since he was old enough to hold a crayon. we would play tag team drawing and create funny pictures together. now he is excellent at drawing people and capturing their personality. a lot of his art includes musicians. Scotty will have a t- shirt line available on this website soon with his original art. he hates learning how to create with new mediums in art class because he only want to use his pencil. he is growing up too fast and we are trying to be involved with all of his activities as much as we can, while we still can.
